Shankar Poli


Shankar Poli is a very popular snack from Karnataka. It's made in two varieties; sweet & spicy.

Ingredients: -
Sweet:-
1 cup maida
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp. ghee
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
Oil for deep frying

Spicy:-
1 cup maida
2 tbsp. ghee
1 tsp chili powder
A pinch of Asafoetida
Salt
Oil for deep frying

Method: -
Sweet:-
1.Take maida in a bowl, add salt, sugar & mix thoroughly with water.
2.Knead them thickly to make dough.
3.Make balls out of the dough & roll them like thin chapatis.
4. Keep oil in a kadai & heat it on medium flame.
5. When the oil is being heated, cut the chapatis into small diamond shaped pieces with the help of a knife.
6. Drop all the diamond pieces of one chapati into the oil & fry them until golden brown.


Spicy: -

Diamond shape: -
First cut the chapatis vertically into 1/2 inch strip and then keep the strip horizontally and cut them into small pieces. This will look like a diamond shape.

Hello,
Must try this one. I think the list of ingredients is showing asafoetida under the 'Sweet' by mistake. Assuming that it is exclusively for spicy kind.
